STEAM Camp

All Day Camp

Through creative play and collaborative learning we will explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics and how they are all intertwined. Haley is a lead teacher at RVNS with a rich background in science communication.  Two sessions of STEAM Camp will be offered this summer to accommodate different age ranges.

Kindercamp: In der Stadt

A German Immersion Camp

ages 10 and under

Children will explore Lewisburg with real-world application of German. Along the way we’ll play some games, sing some songs, and practice basic conversational skills to grow our familiarity with German. Krista has over 25 years of teaching experience in a variety of settings and is a lead teacher at RVNS.

Nature Artists!

Let’s get creative! Children will explore, collect, and use materials from nature to create crafts each day. Catie is a teaching assistant at RVNS and a yoga instructor. Two sessions of Nature Artists! will be offered this summer to accommodate different age ranges.

Let’s Cook!

Do you have a budding foodie? Does your child love to help you cook? In Let's Cook camp, participants will learn basic baking skills, how to bake using ratios, and learn the science behind the foods we cook. By the end of the week, the group is equipped with the skills they need to collaborate and create their own recipe in our own version of a bake off. Elizabeth has over 25 years of teaching experience and is passionate about helping students see math and science in everyday life applications. She also serves as RVNS’s director and lead teacher.

The Art of the Short Story

All Day Camp

Take a deep dive into short stories! In this camp we will be exploring short stories from authors like Ray Bradbury and Shirley Jackson for their literary devices and storytelling abilities and how they connect with the various writing strategies. Immersing ourselves in both reading and writing, allows friends to walk away from this camp with not only greater reading and writing skills but a deeper appreciation for storytelling. Dustin teaches writing at RVNS and has spent summers at Columbia University’s reading and writing workshops..

Forest Immersion: Tracking

In this camp, we will learn tracking skills through games, hikes, and forest play and exploration.  We will look for forest friends and create patterns and art with natural materials! This camp is designed to foster a deep appreciation of the natural world and is an excellent way to experience what it is like to be a school-age student at River Valley Nature School.  Elizabeth is certified as a Forest School Leader and has over 20 years of teaching experience..

Yoga Immersion

Children will have the opportunity to dive into yoga and self awareness through movement, meditation, music, breath work, and time for self reflection. Catie is a teaching assistant at RVNS and a yoga instructor.

The Art of Construction:

Why buildings stand and sometimes fall

A week of hands-on exploration of architecture, the forces acting on structures, properties of materials, problem solving, and design. We will look at modern and historical buildings, find similarities and inspiration in nature, and end the week with small groups working to solve a model bridge building project. Denise has a degree in architecture and nearly two decades of experience connecting nature, art, and learning in a homeschool community and is a lead teacher at RVNS.
